Pandemic hangover forces used car shoppers to buy much older cars

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 09:32:20 GMT

(iSeeCars) -- A combination of restricted used car supply and inflation has forced buyers into much older used cars over the past 4 years. Buyers with a $23,000 budget could purchase a 3-year-old car in 2019, but that same amount is not enough for an average 6-year-old used car today. The reduced production of new cars in 2020, 2021, and 2022 is now reflected in limited used car availability and dramatically higher prices.iSeeCars.com analyzed over 21 million used cars sold in 2019 and 2023 and found that the average age of used cars sold increased from 4.8 years to 6.1 years, while the average price across all ages increased from $20,398 to $27,133.Summary: Today’s late-model used car shoppers have to buy cars more than twice as old as what the same money bought them in 2019$23,000 Bought a 3-year-old used car in 2019, but today $23,000 won’t even buy a 6-year-old car Limited production of new cars in 2020-2022 is reflected in the scarce availability of 1- to 3-year-old u...

Rockies Journal: Nolan Jones is most valuable, Kris Bryant most disappointing

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 09:32:20 GMT

It’s not easy to dish out awards for the 2023 Rockies, given that they own the worst record in franchise history and lost 100 games for the first time. But I’ll give it my best shot. Most Valuable Rockie: Rookie outfielder Nolan Jones gets the nod over rookie shortstop Ezequiel Tovar and veteran catcher Elias Diaz. Yes, Tovar plays a more impactful defensive position, and Diaz caught more games than anyone in Rockies history and also was the MVP of the All-Star Game. But Jones’ breakout season — at the plate and in the outfield — is worthy of strong consideration for National League rookie-of-the-year honors. What’s more, he provided some of the most exciting defensive plays and longest homers of the season.Jone’s MVR statistics are compelling. Among major-league rookies with 400 plate appearances, Jones entered the final weekend of the season tied for first in average (.290) and ranked first in on-base percentage (.383), slugging (.535) and OPS (.918). Fans jeer as Manchester United loses 1-0 to Crystal Palace

MANCHESTER, England (AP) — After back-to-back wins, it’s back to the drawing board for Manchester United.Erik ten Hag’s struggling team suffered a fifth defeat in nine games as Joachim Andersen fired Crystal Palace to a 1-0 win at Old Trafford in the Premier League on Saturday. Boos rang around the stadium after the final whistle as a solemn-faced Ten Hag made his way to the locker room in the Manchester rain. So much for the optimistic words from the Dutch coach in his pre-game program notes when he spoke of his team taking “another step forward” following the midweek win against Palace in the English League Cup. That victory came after United had also beaten Burnley in the league. But Andersen’s first-half strike, when lashing Eberechi Eze’s free kick past Andre Onana, put a halt to United’s recent revival and raised fresh questions about its prospects this season. Ten Hag is struggling to find consistency after leading the club back into the Champions League last seas...

Newcastle beats Burnley 2-0 to secure 3rd straight Premier League win

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 09:32:20 GMT

NEWCASTLE, England (AP) — Miguel Almiron and Alexander Isak scored as Newcastle secured its third straight Premier League win by beating Burnley 2-0 on Saturday. The win extended Newcastle’s unbeaten run to five games in all competitions as Eddie Howe’s team appears to have put its difficult start to the season behind it. Burnley, meanwhile, is still waiting for its first win in the Premier League after earning promotion back to the top flight last season. Almiron’s second goal in a week set Newcastle up for a third-successive win in the league — including an 8-0 rout at Sheffield United — after losing three of its first four games at the start of the campaign. His 14th-minute strike was followed by Isak’s penalty in the 76th at St. James’ Park. But for the efforts of Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford and some sub-standard finishing, the margin of Newcastle’s victory might have been even bigger. Trafford was beaten after Kieran Trippier dispossessed Aaron Ram...
