CHICAGO — Preliminary CPD numbers indicate that murders are down, but the crime rate is stubbornly high. While there were fewer shooting incidents year over year, the city has seen many more robberies. Forty-five minutes into the new year, in the Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood, multiple people were shot, one fatally. It was Chicago’s first homicide of 2024. (KRON) – A pedestrian has died after a hit-and-run in the 4200 block of International Boulevard of Oakland, The Oakland Police Department announced Monday. The OPD Communications Division was notified that a pedestrian was transported to an area hospital after sustaining injuries from being struck by a vehicle after midnight on Jan. 1. Woman shot in car, San Francisco PD investigate The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the hospital. According to the preliminary investigation, the collision occurred at the intersection of International Boulevard and 42nd Avenue. A vehicle doing “donuts” struck a pedestrian on the sidewalk.The driver fled the scene after the incident, police said. The pedestrian's identity is being withheld pending notification to the next of kin. (KRON) – The National Weather Service forecasts a Pacific storm system this week with the "bulk of rain" falling from Tuesday evening into Wednesday.Rain is expected to be 0.5-1.5 inches for inland regions and 1.5-3 inches near the coast. However, for Friday, a quick-moving, low-pressure system is forecasted, increasing the chance of rain. On Saturday another system is forecasted. (KRON) – An AC Transit bus driver was injured after a shooting took place Sunday night in Oakland, according to officials.A ShotSpotter activation alerted Oakland officers of a potential shooting in the 6600 of Foothill Boulevard around 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 31. The shooting was between two vehicles, with an AC Transit bus in the area, the transit agency said. ‘STFU Musk’: Projector signs seen at SF NYE fireworks show takes aim at Mayor Breed, Elon Musk A stray bullet in the shooting hit the bus and shattered glass on the driver's side, AC Transit said. Pieces of glass struck the driver's forehead, causing injuries.
