(KTLA) -- The median age of Americans reached a record high of 38.9 years between 2021 and 2022, according to new data released by the U.S. Census Bureau on Thursday.During that timeframe, the median age in the nation has increased by 0.2 years. The rapid rise is noteworthy since the median age in 2000 was 35 and in 1980 it was 30.“As the nation’s median age creeps closer to 40, you can really see how the aging of baby boomers, and now their children — sometimes called echo boomers — is impacting the median age,” Kristie Wilder, a demographer in the Census Bureau’s Population Division, said in a statement. America aged rapidly in the last decade as baby boomers grew older and births dropped Researchers found that about 17 states had median ages above 40 in 2022. Maine led the group with the highest median age with 44.8 and New Hemisphere followed with 43.3.On the contrary, Utah, the District of Columbia and Texas had the lowest median ages in the nation. This easy lemon tart has a timesaving twist

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 04:03:18 GMT

By Melissa Clark, The New York TimesOne August, when I was 10 years old and vacationing with my family in a village in Provence, we decided to try lemon tarts from all the patisseries within a 20-minute drive. Every day, we’d pick up our sample to rigorously evaluate its merits and flaws. Was the pastry as crisp and crumbly as a cookie? Was the curd silky smooth, yet sharp enough to make you squint before the buttery sweetness hit? This recipe meets those criteria and more, and even features a timesaving tweak. Instead of a classic tart crust, which needs a rolling pin and all your patience, I use a foolproof, smoosh-it-into-the-pan dough made with melted butter. It’s a breeze to throw together and bakes up as crunchy as a shortbread cookie, but it’s thin enough that there’s plenty of room for the lemon curd filling.Besides being easy, the melted butter has a surprising advantage. Cook it until the foamy white milk solids fall to the bottom of the pan, and the fat turns amber and sme...
