Bastrop elementary school unveils book vending machine

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 12:09:56 GMT

BASTROP, Texas (KXAN) – Lost Pines Elementary has a new vending machine -- but this one does not sell snacks. The district posted Tuesday morning that the school unveiled the machine that will vend books selected by campus librarians. The books are free to students, who will earn a vending machine "token" for positive behavior and making good choices consistently, a district spokesperson said. Unlike at a library, students can take home and keep the books to build an at-home library. The vending machine was paid for through the Bastrop Education Foundation, which has funded several machines at other schools. A district spokesperson said they are given when a teacher or librarian writes a grant. The next grant window opens Dec. 1.

After canvassing the market over the past 48 hours, the Vikings are trading for journeyman quarterback Josh Dobbs in a move with the Arizona Cardinals. This move was necessary after franchise quarterback Kirk Cousins suffered a torn Achilles tendon on Sunday afternoon at Lambeau Field while leading the Vikings to a win over the Green Bay Packers. It was a devastating blow for the Vikings at the time and forced them to act fast in the search for a replacement. That ultimately led the Vikings to the Cardinals and they acquired Dobbs and a 2024 seventh-round pick in exchange for a 2024 sixth-round pick.As the starter for the Cardinals this season, Dobbs has thrown for 1,569 yards, 8 touchdowns, and 5 interceptions. Letters: Responding to Douglas Bruce’s op-ed on Prop. HH and TABOR

Thoughtful HH debate is necessaryRe: “Do the math when deciding on Proposition HH,” Oct. 29 letters to the editor and “The true cost of raising the TABOR cap will be exponential Proposition HH,” Oct. 28 commentaryI appreciate the thoughtful letters in Sunday’s Denver Post favoring and opposing Proposition HH. The letters were well-crafted and expressed the writers’ points of view clearly and forcefully. They were a definite contrast to the op-ed authored by Douglas Bruce, which appeared in the Saturday paper. His lengthy opposition to Proposition HH contained the terms hate, scheme, cabal, scam, theft-vote, dirty money, fraudulent votes, attempt to buy, corrupt, and attack. I would characterize Bruce’s article as invective only, very short of persuasion.Mark McGoff, ArvadaIronically, Douglas Bruce, creator of the TABOR amendment, concluded his recent guest commentary with the directive, “Do it for the children,” while calling for a NO vote o...
