Day Two of UAW strike: Wentzville picketers explain their motives

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 07:28:56 GMT

WENTZVILLE, Mo. - Instead of being on the assembly line, UAW workers are on the picket line for the second straight day. Around 13,000 workers linked to the United Autoworkers union nationwide, or less than 10 percent of the UAW’s total hourly workers, have taken a stand against three automaking giants – General Motors, Ford, and Stellantis – at the same time. Wentzville worker walkouts began close to midnight Friday in an unusual way. UAW Local 2250 are trying to send a message as part of a calculated strategy to try to make the union’s strike funds last longer. SCHEDULE: 2023 Great Forest Park Balloon Race events Among the union’s demands, a 36% pay raise (down from the original ask of 40%), medical benefits after retirement, and a four-day work week. Several Wentzville workers spoke about their picketing experience and motives Saturday with FOX 2: "As far as I know, if an employee was hired after 2007, they are no longer eligible for a pension," said picketer Doug Thompson. Mizzou upsets No. 15 Kansas State, 30-27, on 61-yd game-winning field goal

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 07:28:56 GMT

COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) — Eli Drinkwitz and the Missouri coaching staff decided in the closing seconds of a back-and-forth affair with Kansas State on Saturday that if the Tigers crossed midfield and reached the 40-yard line, they would give Harrison Mevis a chance to kick the winning field goal.Missouri made it to the Kansas State 38 and quarterback Brady Cook spiked the ball to stop the clock. Then that same coaching staff inexplicably lost track of time on the sideline, and the delay-of-game penalty pushed the field-goal attempt back 5 yards. What would have been a 56-yarder became a 61-yard long shot from the wrong side of midfield. It didn't matter. After Cook threw incomplete trying to recoup the yardage, Mevis trotted onto the field anyway. And with the final few seconds ticking away, he boomed the SEC-record 61-yarder over the crossbar, sending the Tigers to a field-storming, come-from-behind 30-27 victory over the No. 15 Wildcats in a showdown of former Big 12 rivals.“We took the p...

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 07:28:56 GMT

Week 3 was about just getting through it for most of the highly ranked teams.No. 1 Georgia, facing its first opponent with even a prayer to challenge the two-time defending champs, needed a half to find a groove against South Carolina.No. 3 Florida State fought through early lethargy and second-half sloppiness at Boston College to hang on for dear life.No. 7 Penn State needed five takeaways to win ugly at Illinois. And then there was No. 10 Alabama, which went through two quarterbacks and needed almost three quarters just to get into the end zone at South Florida. The Tide was unrecognizable, even in victory. As unsettling as last week’s loss at home to No. 4 Texas might have felt for Alabama fans, this had to feel just as ominous.Next week has the makings of being a huge one in college football, with as many as six matchups of ranked teams. The immediate question is: Will Alabama be one of them? The road trip to Tampa, Florida, seemed weird for the Crimson Tide, but Alabama recruits a ...
